Atmail Webmail expands its capabilities with a new plugin API and the release of the first set of plugins to customers.
June 21, 2010, – Atmail, a leading developer of software applications for email messaging and collaboration with more than 14 million paid mailboxes worldwide, has released the new plugin API for Atmail Version 6.1.8 Webmail and email server software that will provide an easy way to deploy additional features as well as facilitate integration with third party products and services. Atmail also announced today that the new plugin API will integrate with the Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall, an award-winning email security appliance that includes 12 layers of defense against the latest spam, virus, phishing and other email attacks. Atmail 6, first released in July 2009 is constantly evolving to accommodate the needs of users.
“Since Atmail was first released last July, we have been working to evolve the product to best suit the needs of our customers,” said Ben Duncan, CEO of Atmail. “Our goal is to add features to Atmail that increase the overall value for our clients and the plugin library will allow the Atmail development team and third parties a more dynamic framework to add functions. We asked customers what features they would like to have as plugins, before we chose the first set of plugins for the library. The Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall plugin was chosen as the first third-party plugin, based on customer and channel response.”
The Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall is used by thousands of organizations of all size and type worldwide. Integration with the Atmail Webmail 6.1.8 client is available immediately to current Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall at: http://atmail.com/plugins.
“Allowing our users to control spam and virus protection from a single user interface like Atmail’s Webmail client, simplifies email administration,” said Stephen Pao, vice president of product management for Barracuda Networks. “Given the popularity of Webmail, this is a welcome benefit for our customers. The Atmail Webmail plugin is a good example of how our products can interoperate with complementary platforms.”
Atmail 6.1.8 Webmail can be used with other email servers, besides Atmail Server. Atmail Server, which includes Webmail, is available as software, as an appliance or as a cloud service. The Atmail Email Server includes support for SMTP, POP3 & IMAP protocols. A Webmail Client is included, which also gives users the ability to change account passwords, specify auto-reply messages, email forwarding rules, spam settings and more. The Atmail Webmail client supports email threading, conversations, attachment preview/thumbnails and more. The administration of the mail-server is made easy by using a web browser based WebAdmin control-panel. In addition, the entire Barracuda Spam & Virus Firewall line features simultaneous inbound and outbound email filtering with the inclusion of sophisticated outbound email filtering techniques, such as rate controls, domain restrictions, user authentication (SASL), keyword and attachment blocking, triple-layer virus blocking, and remote user support for outbound email filtering.
