The plan to reduce the number of datacenters by the year 2015 by agencies it to be submitted to the Office of Management and Budget by August 30. The memo further states for agencies to get rid of real properties that aren’t necessary, potentially opening the door for new private companies to move into these locations, at government auction prices.
The only catch to this is the fact that agencies lease the majority of space that is not already with federal facilities or military bases. At least $3 billion in savings is expected on government spending but in turn could lead to many private sectors taking the financial hit from loss of leased contracts.
