(Gawkwire)—Site5, a leader in shared, reseller, VPS, dedicated, and cloud hosting, today introduced Xen-based Virtual Private Servers, offering 100 percent dedicated system resources to each account, unlike other virtualization alternatives which share resources between user accounts.
Because each Site5 Virtual Private Server offers guaranteed server resources, customers are able to expect a sustained high level of performance. When sever resources are shared between user accounts – as is an industry norm – customers can unexpectedly experience significant, periodic performance drops.
“We treat our hosting solutions as mission-critical for our customers, and we take every step possible to guarantee performance and uptime. By utilizing Xen in our Virtual Private Servers and guaranteeing system resources, we are able to create a tangible differentiator between Site5 and our imitators. When uptime and performance are a factor in the consumer buying process, Site5 wins every time. We’ve quite literally built our business on it,” said Site5 Chief Operating Officer Tom Sepper.
Site5 Xen-based Virtual Private Servers are widely customizable. Virtual Private Servers start at $50 per month for 40GB of disk space, 600GB of monthly bandwidth, and at least 756MB of RAM on the node. All plans include Site5’s exclusive "No Worry" Full Management, a control panel, at least two dedicated IP addresses, and a wide-variety of other value-added features.
In the coming months, Site5 plans to introduce additional Virtual Private Server hosting solutions, including an unmanaged alternative to its existing fully-managed services.
Earlier this month, Site5 introduced Shared Cloud Hosting and Cloud Virtual Private Serves. The cloud hosting solutions offer unprecedented reliability, speed, and scalability by virtualizing entire clusters of servers and creating a fully redundant hosting environment.

Ann Arbor, Michigan – (The Hosting News) – July 1, 2009 – Web hosting service provider and Magento hosting solutions company, NEXCESS.NET has indicated that since the launch of its new Magento SIP hosting plans, which debuted in May, they have become their fastest-selling hosting plan.
Chris Wells, CEO of Nexcess remarked, ”We’ve been really gratified with the feedback. We were sure we’d put together a winning package geared specifically towards clients who were interested in running Magento-based online stores and were happy to see that we’d hit the mark. The popularity of the plans has necessitated adding new SIP servers faster than anticipated. We actually had to scramble a bit at first to keep up with the demand – but we keep plenty of extra hardware at our data center both for SIPs and all our other hosting plans, so there were no fulfillment problems.”
Mr. Wells added, ”Magento is a complex piece of software, and we’ve put a lot of effort into figuring out how to make it run optimally. A lot of our competitors try to run Magento as if it were just another piece of web software. It clearly needs a specialized environment to provide the performance level e-commerce sites require. Customers can really tell a difference when they move to a SIP from a generic one-size-fits-all solution.”
The Magento SIP (Secure Isolated Platform) plans consist of carefully chosen software and hardware which have been extensively tested and optimized to run the Magento e-commerce software as securely and efficiently as possible. The plans have proved popular because they include everything needed to get a Magento web store up and running smoothly, according to Wells.
Nexcess will be expanding their Magento SIP plans in the near future to include the recently released Enterprise edition of the Magento software, and will also offer SIP plans that use load-balanced clusters for very high traffic hosting scenarios.
Mr. Wells concluded, ”We were the first Magento Enterprise hosting partner, and can offer customized hosting packages using the Enterprise software. We’ll be updating our offerings to include Magento Enterprise Edition SIPs very soon.”
NEXCESS.NET is an Ann Arbor, Mich. based company specializing in web hosting solutions, offering a range of services from shared hosting to complex multi-server configurations. Internet powerhouse Yahoo, just made its distribution of Hadoop available while hosting the Second Annual Hadoop Summit. Under the Apache Hadoop project, Hadoop is a distributed file system and parallel execution environment that allows users to process large amounts of data. Acting on requests from the user community, Yahoo decided to open up its investment in quality engineering for the benefit of the larger ecosystem and aid in the innovation of open collaborative research and development. Its distribution of Hadoop has been thoroughly tested and deployed on the world’s largest Hadoop clusters.
Justin Erenkrantz, Apache Software Foundation President, noted his excitement to see how the Apache Hadoop project has progressed over the last few years. He says the foundation is looking forward to witnessing the community’s growth accelerate with Yahoo’s continuous support and commitment to quality, factors that will ultimately attract more contributors to the Apache Hadoop project.
Mike Olson, CEO of Cloudera, states that the general availability of Yahoo’s Hadoop source code will make its own distribution of Hadoop more robust and scalable. He says Cloudera will continue to work with Yahoo to implement the tried and tested source code into its commercial distribution. According to Olson, the Cloudera distribution of Hadoop is an enterprise-ready version complete with key tools, utilities, customer service and technical support, features designed to help enterprises deploy and maintain the Hadoop platform for larger scale data processing and management needs.
Considered one of the pioneers, Yahoo has led the way in development and is now the leading contributor to the Apache Hadoop project. Doug Cutting, Hadoop founder, joined Yahoo in 2006 and the company immediately began making significant investments in developing the project. Hadoop currently underpins several of Yahoo’s properties, including Yahoo Search, Yahoo mail and a variety of its content and advertising services. In Yahoo data centers, Hadoop runs on well over 25,000 servers and analyzes billions of web pages, petabytes of storage and billions of new records on a daily basis.
To demonstrate the community collaboration of the Hadoop project, Yahoo hosted the second annual Hadoop Summit on June 10 in Santa Clara, California. Co-sponsoring the event was Cloudera, Amazon Web Services, IBM, Sun Startup Essentials and Lightspeed Venture Partners. The event brought hundreds of members from the Hadoop user and developer communities together to learn and share ideas with each other. The Hadoop Summit focused on all the advancements made in the development and deployment of the project and its related technologies. It also touched on case studies of the applications being created and deployed on Hadoop as well as discussions on the platforms’ future directions.
Yahoo’s distribution of Hadoop is available via the Yahoo Developer Network. Cloudera’s distribution, which includes the Yahoo source code, is available at cloudera.com.
